Canyon Cougar Sports Update - December 4, 2011
SWIMMING
The TISCA meet held at the
Josh Davis Natatorium this past weekend was for TISCA district
qualifiers. Canyon did not qualify
any swimmers.
On Saturday Dec 10 Canyon strokes against New Braunfels in a dual meet to be
held at the Josh Davis Natatorium 1604.
WRESTLING
Last week on Wednesday Canyon won its first home dual 48-29 against Killeen
Shoemaker, so following up on our dual win against Westlake the Coogs are 2-0 in
duals.
The Eagle Varsity Duals were cancelled so the Varsity and JV participated in the
Churchill Charger Classic this past weekend.
Charger Classic
Varsity-
1st- Chase Rios (Fr) 106 lbs
2nd-Nick Mabry (Jr) 220 lbs
4th-Corey Robledo (So) HWT
Honorable Mention
Gino Sciaraffa went 4-1, only losing one match but he was unable to wrestling
for 3rd because of the 5 match rule which allows a wrestler only 5 matches in
one day.
Freshman Zach Lyons wrestled up a weight class at 113. Zach ended up doubling
out after losing to heavier and much older opponents.
JV Results
1st Place: Josh Moreno and Adam Gomez.
2nd Place: Austin Smith.
3rd Place: Austin Solis, Koby Kaczmarek, Brandon Magnusson
This week, December 9 & 10 the Varsity and JV wrestle at the Pederson
Invitational at San Antonio Johnson High School.
BASKETBALL - GIRLS
Last week on Tues Nov 29 the Freshman, JV and Varsity hosted Seguin.
The Varsity Cougarettes defeated Seguin 61-48.
Results unknown for sub-varsity :(
The Varsity hosted the Cougarette Classic Tournament over the weekend and placed
2nd, dropping the title game to Lake Travis.

The Varsity Cougarettes are 7-4 on the season.

BASKETBALL - BOYS
Last week on Wednesday Nov 30 the 9A, 9B, JV and Varsity traveled to Cibolo
Steele to take on the Knights. The
Varsity Coogs lost 50-54 and the JV Coogs lost 57-64 in overtime.
9A and 9B results are unknown :(
Over the weekend (Dec 2-3) the Varsity played in the Seguin Matador Classic
Tournament and placed 4th.
Game 1 - defeated Steele 62-51
Game 2 - defeated Magnolia 59-56
Game 3 - lost to SA Brandeis 60-66
Game 4 - lost to East Central 67-87

This week on Tuesday Dec 6th the Varsity, JV, 9A and 9B Cougars host San Antonio
Roosevelt.
This coming weekend Dec 9-10 the Varsity Coogs host and play in the River City
Classic Tournament and open on Friday at 9am against San Antonio Fox Tech.

Last week on Monday the JV Boys played at the San Marcos Rattler Invitational at

Varsity Boys played this past weekend Dec 2-3 at the Marble Falls Mustang
Classic at Hidden Falls (Marble Falls)/Ram Rock (Horseshoe Bay).
Friday was raining and cold.
Saturday it rained some of the day and was cold.

CROSS COUNTRY
Canyon Cougars 4th in District.
Canyon Cougarettes District Champions, 3rd at Region and 9th at State
VOLLEYBALL
Canyon Cougarettes District Champions, Bi-District Champions, Area Champions,
defeated by state champion Lake Travis in 3rd round of playoffs (region
quarterfinals).
FOOTBALL
Canyon Cougars 4th in District and finished 7-4 overall, 3-3 in district.
Defeated by Kerrville in first round of playoffs (bi-district).
